Easter comes early this year. It’s just around the corner at the end of March and the beginning of it doesn’t even feel like spring yet. That means I need to start preparations a little sooner than usual.
Each year, I love to come up with unique treats to place inside my kids’ Easter baskets. There was the year of the homemade chocolate lollipops that were shaped like bunnies. Oh, and the chocolate dipped Rice Krispies treats were a big hit another year. I love to come up with treats that are creative but also quick and easy. We busy moms only have so much time in a day. Am I right?
This year I decided to try my hand at making chocolate eggs. But not just any chocolate eggs. I decided to make chocolate confetti Easter eggs with a little surprise inside. Here’s this year’s fun Easter treat–chocolate confetti eggs bursting with sprinkles and candies inside!

What You’ll Need:
- plastic Easter egg (separate the two parts before beginning)
- baking chocolate or chocolate melts
- large bowl
- spoon
- candies and sprinkles
- sharp knife
Directions:
- Place baking chocolate or chocolate melts in a large microwavable bowl. Heat it on high for 30 seconds at a time. Stir after each heating. Continue doing this until the chocolate is completely melted without any lumps.
- Fill the larger part of the plastic egg with chocolate leaving about 1/4 inch space at the top
- Add the top onto the plastic egg. Slowly spin the egg around to coat the inside with chocolate. (Tip: It’s best to use a light colored egg, so you can easily see if there are any places that have not been covered with chocolate.
- Place the egg in the freezer. Flip it after about 2-3 minutes and place it back in the freezer. Leave it in the freezer for about 6-8 more minutes.
- Take the plastic egg out of the freezer. Tap gently and twist the two sides of the plastic egg apart to remove your hollow chocolate egg.
- Using the knife, cut a small hole in one end of the chocolate egg.
- Put small candies and sprinkles in through the opening.
- Replace the part of the egg you cut out using some of the remaining melted chocolate from the bowl as “glue”.
- Repeat these steps to make as many confetti eggs as you need.
That’s a wrap! Oh, and speaking of wrap…don’t forget to wrap your Chocolate Confetti Eggs inside clear treat bags. Throw in a few extra sprinkles and top each bag off with a ribbon. They’ll look amazing in your kids’ Easter baskets. Imagine the looks on their sweet faces when they break–or bite–open their tasty chocolate eggs and find them bursting with candies and sprinkles. It’s a surprise you’ll want to capture. Don’t forget to save a few chocolate confetti eggs for yourself too. You don’t want to miss out on the deliciousness because everyone knows that the best part of an Easter egg–even a chocolate one–is breaking it open to see what’s inside.
What would you put inside these fun Easter eggs? Candy? Sprinkles? A sweet message? Whatever you choose, the kids are sure to love them!

How fun is this!! Very creative. I can just see my boys “cracking” the chocolate eggs for the treats inside. I’m pretty positive I’m going to have to make some of these on Spring Break before the holiday. Found you at the From Dream to Reality link party. Pinning!
Thanks for the pin! I hope your boys love them!
These are SO cute and you make it look easy! Though I prefer the taste of regular chocolate, like you used, I bet these could be made with candy melts or colored white chocolate for colored eggs too! I’m off to buy plastic eggs so I can try this!
Hope you have fun with them! Using colored chocolate would be great too!
What a fun idea! Just imagine all the different little things you could put in there too!
