Lavender Rosemary Wax Melts

DIY lavender rosemary wax melts - can be used in any wax pot. I love this scent!

Hi everyone. It’s Erin, stopping in from Lemons, Lavender, & Laundry. Last fall, I shared a DIY recipe for simmering potpourri over on my blog, and I absolutely loved it. It’s full of cloves and cinnamon and oranges. Yum. Problem is, it’s summer, and those scents scream, “Let’s curl up under a blanket by the fire.” Not only that, but turning on our gas stove warms the house, and the last thing I want to do is add more heat on a 90 degree day. So I decided to make some Lavender Rosemary Wax Melts instead. They turned out beautifully, so I thought I’d share them with you.

Lavender Rosemary Wax Melts

MATERIALS:

  • Soy Wax Flakes
  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Dried Rosemary
  • Dried Lavender
  • Glass Measuring Cup
  • Silicone Mold
  • Wooden Craft Stick

Lavender Rosemary Wax Melts

Start by filling a 2 cup glass measuring cup with approximately 1 1/2-2 cups of the soy wax flakes. (You can certainly go with less, just adjust the other ingredients accordingly). I was able to make 12 wax melts with this recipe. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Using a wooden craft stick, stir the contents. After the first minute, continue to microwave (on high) in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until all the wax has melted.

*Please be very, very careful. Use an oven mitt or hot pad when removing the measuring cup as both the handle and contents can get extremely hot.

While the wax is still melted, stir in the lavender and rosemary essential oils. I went with a total of 40 drops of the essential oils (30 drops of lavender, and 10 of the rosemary). You can adjust the ratio depending on whether you prefer a stronger scent of one over the other.

Carefully pour the mixture into a silicone mold, filling them about 3/4 full.

Sprinkle a little dried lavender and rosemary onto the tops, and allow them to harden.

Once the wax has completely hardened, pop the wax melts out of the mold.

When you are ready to use them, simply place 2 or 3 in a wax melt warmer and enjoy!

I’d love to keep in touch!

hi i noticed you didnt have a temerature point on your post is this ok not to have a temperature point when melting the wax- seems to be a lot quicker to do it your way without having to have the temerature and also the pouring temperature when doing these, i will give it a try like this

I didn’t use an exact temperature for the wax. You certainly don’t want to overdo it. I found that going in short increments and thoroughly stirring was the best way to go. If you just have a couple wax flakes remaining, I would go ahead and continue stirring them in until they melt. No need to add more time. In total I believe it took about 2-2 1/2 minutes to get the wax fully melted, working in 30 second increments. I have also melted wax in a heat-proof bowl placed over a pan of boiling water. I just found the microwave version a bit easier and less messy. Hope that helps.

Is there a way to print the instructions for the Lavender Rosemary Wax Melts out so I do exactly as you say? I have just ordered some of the items and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to print out the instruction easily – I could copy and paste I guess. Thank you for all of your blogs and ideas for my home…..I LOVE IT!!!

I’m glad you like it! I just have my recipes as separate printables so, yes, copying and pasting would be the best way to go. Thanks so much!

    Swap soy for beeswax?

That should work. The only thing you would have to look at is how hot your wax wamer gets. Since the beeswax has a higher melting temp, you’ll need to make sure your wax warmer gets quite hot – otherwise it won’t melt completely and the scent won’t release.

I have an air tight container that I use to store mine {similar to the OXO ones}. I think it helps keep the scent a little better. And just be sure it’s not stored anywhere too hot. 🙂
