DIY Rustic Photo Frames and Fusion Paint Giveaway

Hey guys!  Today I am blog hopping with some amazing bloggers to bring you some fun DIY projects using Fusion paints.  You can find all of the links to everyone’s projects at the end of the post as well as a giveaway for $150 worth of Fusion products of your choice.   I know you will love this paint as much as I do, so be sure to enter!

***********************
Way back in November, I had the chance to meet Jennylyn from Fusion Paints at a little local blogger meet-up.  She was one of the sweetest people that I have met and I loved hearing her family story behind Fusion paints.  She generously gave us all a bunch of Fusion paint samples and other goodies to try, but with the craziness of the Christmas season, I didn’t get a chance to try them out.  As with most things in my life, if I don’t get around to doing something right away, it usually ends up taking months to get back to it.   Well…. here we are 6 months later and I finally have a paint project to show you! 😉

DIY Rustic Photo Frame - So easy and inexpensive to create!
These DIY rustic photo frames are simple to make and can be customized to any color or size that you would like.  I think a few of these would look awesome thrown into a photo gallery wall and I love how easy it is to switch out the photos!  It would also work as a cute memo board – you could even mount some cork board instead of the wood matting.  Endless possibilities…

MATERIALS

  • 1×2 boards {or garden stakes} cut to desired size.  For an 8×10 photo, I used 9 pieces cut to approximately 15.5 inches and 2 pieces cut to 13 inches for the back of the frame.
  • Fusion paint in Inglenook Ocean and Champlain.
  • 1 1/4 inch thin wood screws
  • wood glue
  • thin wood sheet {I cute mine to 11 x 9.5}
  • bulldog clip or clothes peg

TO DO

  • Sand the 1×2 pieces on the front surfaces and corners and paint with Inglenook Ocean.  I painted one coat prior to assembly and then did a partial second coat on the visible areas later on once it was assembled.  I must say that this paint goes on like butter – and it is amazing how far one little tester pot will take you!
  • Place the 1×2 pieces together in your desired configuration with the front side facing down.  Place the shorter 1×2 pieces on either side of the frame to secure all of the pieces together {this will be the back of the frame}.  To avoid splitting the wood, make sure to pre-drill your holes before securing with the wood screws.  I staggered my screws just in case the wood was weak but you probably don’t need to do that.  Once it is all together you can do any paint touch ups to any areas that are needed.

DIY Rustic Photo Frame - So easy and inexpensive to create!

  • Paint the wood sheet using the Fusion Champlain.  Once dry, attach to the main photo frame using wood glue.  Clamp down and allow to set as per the instructions on your wood glue.

DIY Rustic Photo Frame - So easy and inexpensive to create!

  • For the photo clip, I used a painted metal clip that I already had and added a little Chocolate paint for a rusted look  Clothes pegs or a variety of office clips would work too so you can always just use what you have on hand.  You can add a clip in the middle like I did or use two smaller ones on each side.  I tried to attach mine with glue but since the back is ridged, it was not wanting to stay put.  I ended up putting a small screw in the frame and just hung the clip directly on that.  Clothes pegs would be much easier!

DIY Rustic Photo Frame - So easy and inexpensive to create!

Before we move onto the giveaway, I just want to take a second to tell you how absolutely awesome I think Fusion paint is.  The color choices are gorgeous and it is pretty much impossible to mess up a project {I have a bench to show you that I painted too!}.  I am all about easy when it comes to DIY projects and this paint is about as easy as it gets!  There is very little prep needed, it is self-leveling, AND it has a built in top coat.  That means that no finishing coat or waxing is required – saving you time and money.  Whoot!  Whoot! 🙂

So who wants to get their hands {and paint brushes!} on some Fusion paint?  Just follow the insturctions below for a chance to win $150 in Fusion paint products all for yourself!

Such a great idea – I love it! With your colors, it looks kinda beach, too! Thanks so much for taking the time to link up with us over at the #HomeMattersParty – we hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend, and that we see you again this Friday! Feel free to bring a friend 🙂
