Dining Room Design Ideas {Home Tour}

Hello friends!  I am continuing on with the home tour today and moving into the dining room.  I started redoing this room over a year and a half ago and it is still a work in progress.  I thought I would show you where things are at right now though and will update you when I finally get around to finishing off the little details.  No promises on how long that will actually be! 🙂

Our dining room is pretty much located in the middle of our main floor with entrances to the front entry, kitchen, and great room.  Most of  the main floor is hardwood; however, the previous owners had put carpet in the dining room {which was originally pink}.  Even though I would have preferred to have hardwood throughout, it was impossible to match the hardwood color, so we chose to stay with carpet.  Eventually, when we replace the old hardwood, we will go with the same flooring throughout the entire main floor.

I’m always terrible at remembering to take a “Before” photo, but here is one that I found that gives you an idea of what it looked like a couple of years ago…

While I do love wood tones, the old bright, honey colored wood dining room set was not what I was looking for.  I painted the buffet and hutch, as well as the dining room table, with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in graphite and changed out the hardware on the buffet and hutch.

My original plan was to paint the chairs white but I loved these ones from Home Sense and decided to spare myself another painting project.  The center piece on the table is a DIY Wine Crate that I made with an old storage box that I painted using a wax paper transfer.

To brighten up the space, we painted the walls in Owl Grey {Benajamin Moore} and painted the oak baseboards in Simply White {Benjamin Moore}.

I picked up this wooden table from Home Sense about a year ago and use it to store all of our table linens and placemats.  The mirror was actually an old picture frame and I just had the mirror cut to fit it at a local glass store – it’s one of my favorite things in the room.  The book page wreath has a chalkboard insert so I can always change it up for the holidays {and we all know that I love my holiday decorating!}.

I am still looking for some new window treatments to add a little more color into the room – I’m terrible at making choices when it comes to fabric.  I have found a few things online that I like, but I really like to see things in person and just haven’t been able to hit that “buy now” button!  Maybe this summer…

In one of the corners I have set up a little beverage bar that I like to change up with the seasons.  With summer approaching, we currently have our lemonade bar open.

And here is the table all set for spring!

    Did you recover your dining chairs or purchase them?

      I had recovered the seats on the old ones but the new ones were purchased at Home Sense {Home Goods if you are in the States!}

    I really love your dining room clock – just a little industrial touch but so perfect in the space.

    Wow….love the transformation…the new grey colors look wonderful! I like the choices you made also, I have never been a honey wood tone lover either, not even when it was popular!

    G’Day from Oz! That is a really gorgeous room, Jenn! I love every single detail and the colors are perfect. You are so clever!

    If you have a minute to spare I’d be thrilled if you could pop by and join in with this week’s Say G’day Saturday linky party. It has just started and this would be a fabulous addition!

    Best wishes for a great weekend,
    Natasha in Oz
