Frosted Pipe Cleaner Snowflake Ornaments

I am going to kick things off this morning with these simple frosted pipe cleaner snowflake ornaments….

They are so easy to make and a great project to include the kids with!

MATERIALS

DIRECTIONS

Cut three equal lengths of the white pipe cleaner. {I used either 1/3 or 1/2 of a pipe cleaner for my snowflakes}. Twist them together in the center to form a basic snowflake with six spokes.
Once you have your basic design, you just need to add more pieces of pipe cleaner to create a more intricate snowflake. Remember that no two snowflakes are alike so there is really no right or wrong way to do this!
For my favorite snowflake design, take a pipe cleaner and wrap it around the middle of one of your spokes. Bend it upwards and bend it again to form a triangle. Attach the base to the middle of the next spoke. Continue around the snowflake until you are back where you started.

The snowflake can then be left as is or you can continue to add some detail by trimming small pieces of pipe cleaner and attaching them to the ends of your spokes.

Once you have your snowflakes completed, it is time to frost them! I placed mine in a box to minimize the mess. Make sure to protect all surfaces around you if you do not have a box – the spray adhesive can be hard to remove!

Spray the snowflakes with the adhesive and then sprinkle the Epsom salts over top. You can gently press down on the snowflake to help adhere the Epsom salts a bit more. Allow to dry {this doesn’t take too long} and then do the other side. Once it has dried again, shake out any loose Epsom salts and press your snowflake lightly between two pieces of paper to further remove any loose particles. Adding some glitter would also be pretty!
You can finish with an acrylic sealer to make your ornaments more durable {and to avoid getting Epsom salts all over your home!}.
Attach some fishing line to your snowflake and hang.
