Welcome To Our Retweet

Well, I thought I would take a little break today from all of my organizing for a fun little project.  While reading the latest copy of Scrapbooks Etc., I came across a cute bird family canvas.  Ideas swirled in my head and I knew I had to create my own!

So…what do you think?  I was going to put “Welcome to Our Nest” but sometimes I just can’t resist being a little corny!  {You could always just put your family name on it if you don’t quite have my sense of humor!}

MATERIALS

  • 12×12 canvas
  • paint
  • scrapbook paper
  • jute
  • glue {I used Quick Grip}
  • sheet moss
  • letter stickers or a vinyl cutter {my fonts were Stereofidelic for the top line and Too Much Paper for the bottom line}

TO DO

  • Paint the edges of the canvas black. {You could always skip this step but, for some reason, it just makes it look more finished to me.}

  • Glue on a 12×12 sheet of scrapbook paper.  Once it was glued on, I used a credit card edge to make sure it was all smoothed down.  My canvas wasn’t particularly even so I sanded the edges of my paper down and then inked the edges black so it was flush with the canvas.  I also outlined a black border around the canvas with a pen to give the edge a little more definition.
  • Cut an oval shape out of brown cardstock and glue it onto your canvas for your nest.   Glue the jute around the outside of it.  I the ended up adding some left over sheet moss to the inside of the nest. {I actually decided to do this at the very end of the project but I think it would be easier if you added it during this step.}  Burlap would also be cute to add instead of the moss.
  • Cut out your birds.  I free handed a template for a large bird and a baby bird and then traced them onto the scrapbook paper.  If you would like the template, just let me know.  I obviously stuck with the traditional blue for boys and pink for girls color scheme!

  • I thought things were still looking a little plain at this stage so I cut out the branch and added a few leaves for some extra color.  I made the branches a little longer than the size of the canvas so they hang over the edge.
  • Add your wording as desired.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  If anyone would like to send a little sun my way, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Super Cute! This is better than anything in a magazine! Now, make the birds on my blog to sit next to the print, then I will make your print to sit next to my birds! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
