Tiered Platter

I have seen so many cute versions of tiered platters around blogland and Pinterest, that I decided to jump on the bandwagon and create my own.

I have been loving yellow this summer and found a couple of cheap plates and a bowl down at Superstore. I bought two glass candle holders at a Thrift shop a few months ago and they have patiently been waiting for the perfect project.

For some reason, spray painting the candle holders turned out to be a major pain in the behind.  My first spray paint job totally bubbled up {maybe because I didn’t prime them!} and I had to sand everything down and start again.  The second time, I did prime and the paint on one of them still bubbled up in one section.  So I sanded it down again and re-sprayed.  In between all the priming, sanding, and waiting for the paint to dry, it actually took about a week to get them done.  My advice to you – prime, light coats of spray paint and don’t get too close!

I glued the candle holders to the plates and bowl with Quick Grip.  I love this glue and find it much easier to work with than some of the other glues out there.  {As much as I love the glue, the packaging can be a major annoyance!  My glue ends up coming through various places along the tube and I always end up having to reinforce it with duct tape!}

I wanted a bowl on top rather than a plate so I could use it for dips and sauces.  It got its first use as a fruit tray.

The tray could also be used for chips and dips or a veggie tray.  I think it would also make a fun cupcake stand – you could put some candy toppers in the bowl for a DIY cupcake!

YUM!  The fruit dip is one of the kids’ favorites – about 1 cup Cool Whip Light and 1/2 cup yogurt.  I will also blend up any of the fruit that is too soft and add it in as well.

And if you are looking for some more tiered inspiration, here are a couple of my favorites from Pinterest.

    Love the stand – I am on a yellow kick too. I love the plates and the bowl you selected.

    Another good and easy fruit dip – sour cream (FF is great) and add apricot preserves. A wonderful fruit dip.

    Clever and cute! If you use it for cupcakes, you could put some homemade ice cream in the top.

    Very cute, adorable yellow theme, and good for you for taking the time to paint and repaint when it didn’t turn out like you wanted the first and even second time. Nice job! 🙂
