Our house is almost fully decked out for the holidays and I’m starting to feel the start of that Christmas spirit.  We always have a big family brunch the first weekend in December to kick off the season and I thought that these little reindeer treats would be a cute addition to the table.

I’ve had lots of requests for a Christmas version of my turkey treats, so I hope you like them!  They’re super easy to make and lots of fun to do with the kids.  They’re perfect for Christmas parties or class treats and look really cute as table toppers.

MATERIALS

  • 9 inch tulle circle {I got mine at the dollar store}
  • clear hair elastic
  • brown pipe cleaners
  • red pipe cleaners
  • silver bells
  • google eyes
  • glue dots {or craft glue}
  • red pompom
  • Christmas colored M&Ms or other treats

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place your candies in the middle of the tulle circles and secure closed with the elastic bands {it works best if you place the tulle in a bowl so you can center everything and then fill with the candies}. Leave a small amount of excess tulle in the back to form the tail.  Set aside.

  • Fold a brown pipe cleaner in half.  Twist about 1 1/2 inches up from the point to form the head.

  • Wrap the ends around a pencil to form the antlers.

  • Take another brown pipe cleaner and cut it in half.  Fold one of the pieces in half and place it around the twist between the top of the head and the antlers.  Twist the two halves together so they look like one unit.  This will be the neck that will insert into the treats.  Bend the antlers and head to your desired shape.
  • Place one glue dot in the center of the top of the head and add two google eyes.  Place a glue dot at the tip of the nose and add the red pompom.

  • Stick the neck into the tulle circles at the top.
  • To from the legs and hooves, cut a brown pipe cleaner in half.  Fold up the end approximately 1.5 inches from the bottom, twist onto the pipe cleaner and fold back down.  Press into a triangle shape.  Repeat for the second leg.  Trim any excess pipe cleaner off the top to make your legs the desired length, keeping approximately one inch of extra length to insert into the candy bag.

  • Cut approximately 4 inches of red pipe cleaner to form the collar.  Thread on three bells.  Twist the ends to form a circle around the neck of the reindeer and then slide a threaded bell over the each of the twisted ends to secure.

I hope you have as much fun with these reindeer treats as I did!  Happy December!

    Did you have any issues with the various parts falling out of the bag or the holes created becoming bigger?

      I believe it was Dollarama {I’m in Canada}. They also have them at Michaels too – just use a coupon and they’re not that much more expensive!

      I bought a yard of tulle at Hobby Lobby for under $2.00 and used a plate to trace circles and cut them out.
