Wooden Joy Sign and BEHR Paint Giveaway

We have been busy decking the halls over the past few days and have finished most {okay… maybe half} of the house.  While I still have a ways to go before I complete all of the decorating, I have been enjoying the twinkling Christmas lights and am just trying to ignore the complete disaster areas in the rest of the house.  🙂

Holiday Hues Blog Hop

Today I am teaming up with the rest of the BEHR DIY Expert team to bring you some holiday inspired painting projects.  We also have a fun giveaway for you at the end of the post – if you have some painting plans in your future you will definitely not want to miss it!

For my  project, I decided to do a wooden joy sign for our dining room.   I am decorating the dining room with neutrals and metallic tones this year with some snowy branches and other touches of nature.  Unfortunately, I don’t quite have the dining room done to show you yet {although there are a few sneak peeks on Instagram!}, but this is the view looking through the dining room into our front entry…

This sign is extremely easy to make and can be customized to any size you would like {or designed to read vertically}.  My board was an unfinished piece of pine that was approximately 10 inches x 36 inches.   I painted the board using BEHR Marquee in Dawn Grey and used Pure White for the lettering .  Technically I probably should have primed the board prior to painting since it was unfinished wood; however, I was going for more of a rustic look so minor imperfections were not going to bother me {the paint did appear slightly darker over areas that the wood was knotted}.

I used some letter stencils that I cut out on my Silhouette for the lettering, but if you don’t have access to stencils, a ‘J’ and a ‘Y’ are pretty easy to free hand.  Once everything was dry, I gave it a light sanding with some extra distressing around the edges for good measure.

For the ‘O’, I dressed up a grapevine wreath using an old garland that I had.  I used wire cutters to trim it into smaller sections and hot glued it to the wreath form.  It was the perfect fit for the dining room with the white and glittery silver balls, pine cones, and frosted branches.

I promise that I will have more pictures for you when the dining room is completed but for now I will leave you with these amazing holiday inspired DIY Christmas projects.  Be sure to check them all out!

I am really excited to try Behr Marquee! I want a sea glass color- a little blueish, a little greenish, a touch of grey.

I really love the Dawn Grey you used on the sign for my downstairs bathroom. Once the rest of the bathroom is done I think I’d go with a similar color, just lighter for the family room in the basement.

I think I would get some paint for my kitchen – right now it’s red, and I’m sick of it. I don’t know what color I would go with next. Orange, maybe or green, or a nice clean white! 🙂

I just painted my house inside with the behr Marquee Paint and will now never use anything else. The idea of only doing one coat was very foreign to me as I have always had to do two coats. There were a few places to touch-up when I was done my first coat but overall it mostly only required the one coat. I mainly used the Grey’s but would love to do two bedrooms with one – a lilac and white and the other with maybe a blue of some type. Awesome Christmas ideas here!! Love the marquee collection from behr!!
