Christmas Home Tours

Welcome to the last room of our Christmas home tour! I’ve shown you our Christmas dining room, red and white kitchen, and cozy Christmas bedroom, and today I’m sharing our festive Christmas living room!

A big thank-you to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for organizing this amazing Christmas home tour! This week, 35 bloggers are opening up their homes and sharing all of their Christmas inspiration and ideas with you. You can find all of the links at the end of the post, so be sure to check them out for more Christmas decor tips. If you’re coming over from Calypso in the Country, I’m so glad you were able to stop by. Shelley always has lots of beautiful budget-friendly decor tips to help you decorate your home for the holidays.

Our Festive Christmas Living Room Decor

When it comes to Christmas living room decor, my main goal is to create a cozy and relaxing space for the family to hang out. We’re a big Christmas movie watching family and love snuggling up on the sofa with blankets and pillows (and our dogs!).

When I’m working on designing a cozy space, I try to think about appealing to all five senses. This helps to create a more relaxing environment that calms both the body and mind. And who doesn’t need a little more relaxation around the holiday season! 🙂

Cozy Christmas Decor Using the 5 Senses

Today, I wanted to share some ideas with you for engaging all of your senses into your holiday decor. Remember that these are just ideas – it’s all about choosing what your own personal favorites are and what appeals best to your senses!

Sight: Bring in cozy lighting.

My favorite thing about Christmas decor is always the lights! Tree lights, string lights, tea lights, candles – I love them all!

To make your lighting cozier, use wall scones, layer twinkle lights throughout the room, or add candles {real or faux} to add a softer light. I always look for warm white instead of cool white lights for a prettier glow that isn’t so harsh.

If you have a fireplace, light it up for extra warmth and glow. {You can read more about our winter wonderland Christmas mantel HERE}

Sound: Turn on the Christmas tunes.

There’s nothing that puts you in the Christmas spirit more than Christmas music! If you’re relaxing on the sofa, play your favorite Christmas playlist through a hidden blue tooth speaker.

Or wait until the kids are in bed, turn on the Christmas tree lights {and turn off the main lights} and just relax for a few minutes and listen to the silence!

Touch: Cozy up with blankets and pillows.

Blankets and pillows are not only comfy and cozy, but they also add texture and color to your space. For Christmas, mix up neutral blankets {that you can use all year} with more colorful ones to add that festive touch.

Look for a variety of textures to add more interest and, of course, some warm and cozy options that are perfect for snuggling up! You can roll up blankets in a bin or basket, add them to a blanket ladder, or layer them on your sofa.

Smell: Layer on the Christmas scents.

There are so many amazing scents associated with Christmas. From spices like cinnamon, gingerbread and vanilla, to more woodsy scents like fresh cut pine or other greenery, there’s definitely something for everyone!

Whether you like a lot of scent or just a hint, there are a number of ways that you can add that touch of Christmas to your bedroom. Even if you don’t have a real Christmas tree, you can still add some fresh greenery in other ways. Create a simple DIY Christmas centerpiece, layer in some real greenery to garlands, or fill up a bowl with fresh greens and ornaments.

Diffusers, DIY linen sprays, or candles are another quick and easy way to add your favorite Christmas scents! Layer them together for your perfect custom scent!

Taste: Dress up a rolling cart with some seasonal treats.

When it comes to creating a cozy Christmas space, you can’t forget about one of the best parts of the season… the food! Christmas has so many tasty treats associated with it. From shortbread and sugar cookies to hot cocoa and candy canes, there are so many amazing tastes of Christmas.

A couple of years ago, I put together this Christmas movie night cart and wanted to do something similar this year.

I ended up putting together a rolling hot chocolate bar cart using a craft cart that I had from Michaels. It’s stocked with mugs, all of the trimmings for hot chocolate, a cookie jar, candy canes, and a few little bowls to fill with our favorite Christmas chocolates. {You can find all of the details of our hot chocolate bar cart HERE}.

After the holidays, the cart can be switched up for the different seasons or used for alternate storage and organization in other rooms.  There’s always a use for a rolling cart! 😉

I love the movie cart idea! My kids would have loved that…but now they’re too old. I’ll have to file it away for grandkids one day. Such a cozy living room–well done!

I have never thought of the 5 senses before when decorating for Christmas but what a genius idea! I’m a huge fan of low lighting at night and turning on all the add lights from Christmas and now I realize why it’s so peaceful. Every inch of your beautiful home is so festive and has so many fabulous ideas. And how awesome is a Movie night or hot cocoa rolling cart?! Oh my golly, I need one of those! Super nice to be hopping with you this week. Thank you for the fabulous tour and Merry Christmas!
