Refresh your kitchen for fall with these easy steps and decor ideas from this beautiful fall kitchen home tour. Simple tips that anyone can do!

Seasonal Simplicity Series

September has been flying by and we’re already on week 4 of the Seasonal Simplicity Series hosted by The Happy Housie. Each week 25+ bloggers have been sharing their best fall ideas – from fall crafts and DIY projects to seasonal recipes and fall decor!  If you’re just catching up, here’s what you’ve missed…

  • Week 1 – simple fall DIY projects
  • Week 2 – fall wreath ideas
  • Week 3 – fall mantel decor

This week we’re all opening up our homes for a week long fall home tour series. Each day there will be 8 new home tours up so grab a coffee and enjoy all of the beautiful fall decor ideas! If you’re coming over from Abby Lawson – welcome! I always love how Abby incorporates her love of aqua into her seasonal decor and you will love her aqua fall dining room. Now let’s get going with the rest of the tours!

Our Fall Kitchen Home Tour

Last week I showed you our fall family room decor and today we’re moving into the kitchen! I kind of feel like I have a good method down when it comes to switching up our seasonal kitchen decor so it’s actually a pretty easy process. If you’re looking to add a little seasonal update to your fall kitchen too, check out these simple tips…

Start fresh with a good decluttering and deep cleaning.

I always feel like the start of a new season is the perfect time for a little mini-refresh. As I’m switching up the seasonal decor, I use this time to do all of those little cleaning jobs that are often forgotten. This could include…

  • wiping down all of the cupboards
  • cleaning behind the large appliances
  • cleaning the blinds and window wells {how do these get so dirty?}
  • washing the windows {especially on the outside}
  • cleaning out any cupboards or drawers that are particularly cluttered or unorganized
  • doing a quick check of the pantry for expired items
  • tossing or recycling any old kitchen cloths that are passed their prime

I also empty everything off of the counters to get into all of those little corners. Once everything is clean, I’ll start loading the items back in and adding a few seasonal touches as I go.

Keep kitchen decor {mostly!} functional.

The kitchen is prime time real estate in most homes, so try to keep the majority of your seasonal decor functional. This could include…

  • tea towels in a fall theme or color
  • seasonal salt and pepper shakers
  • seasonal cookie jars
  • fall-scented dish or hand soap
  • a pretty seasonal bowl or serving plate
  • a seasonal beverage bar

This way you can actually use the items that you’re using for decor so they serve a double purpose. Pretty and functional is the best combo!

Gather items on trays.

I’m a big fan of using trays to corral any smaller items that you have out on your countertops. Not only do the trays add a little more interest, but they also help visually to create a less cluttered look and make it so much easier to move items off the counter when you need to clean. I used a rustic wood tray in one of the corners of our kitchen for a fall hot beverage bar. I’ll have all of the details of this up on the blog on Thursday as well as my favorite hot fall drink!

Dress up the sink.

It’s not the start of a new season until I have my seasonal dish and hand soap out! Fall is my favorite season for scents and I love the Mrs. Meyers apple cider and acorn spice. They smell SO good!

Right now you can even snag a FREE Mrs. Meyers fall gift set from Grove Collaborative. With any $20 purchase, you’ll receive a free Mrs. Meyers fall hand soap, dish soap, and cleaner as well as the cute little dish brush set and sponges. You can’t get a better deal than that!

Add a free fall printable.

I have one photo frame in our kitchen that I always switch out each season with new artwork. This fall I designed this sweet pumpkin season free fall printable but these ones would also be cute for a fall kitchen. To make it easier to switch up the prints, just store all of your artwork in one frame and rotate them around throughout the year. You can’t get much easier than that for seasonal decor!

Fill up a cookie jar.

So obviously cookie jars are wonderful filled with some delicious fall cookies {like these oatmeal pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!} but they’re also great for providing extra storage. Fill them with fall baking supplies, extra tea towels, tea bags, or whatever else you need to store! When the season is done, they can be filled with other seasonal items and stored away.

Design a fall centerpiece.

I always have some kind of seasonal centerpiece on our kitchen table. I like to keep it quite simple and easy to move in case we need the table free for a games night or homework. Something like a dough bowl is easy to switch up for the different seasons by changing the filler without having to purchase a whole new piece. For this one, I just used some faux leaves as a base, added some faux pumpkins and a few pinecones, and then layered on some gold leaf string lights.

I also like switching out the table runner and loved the texture and coziness of this one for fall.

If you want to get a little fancier, this harvest moon inspired fall tablescape that I shared yesterday is also a pretty idea.

Pull inspiration from items you already have.

I put up this floral artwork this summer and was planning on taking it down for the fall. When I went to start decorating, however, I realized that the oranges and reds actually worked quite well with the colors that I was adding to the kitchen. I ended up keeping it up and using it for color inspiration for the rest of the space.

Now if only this was my actually weekly to do list…

I hope you enjoyed the tour! Next up on the tour today is Chelsea from Two Twenty One. She’s a fellow boy mom and always has beautiful home decor and organization ideas. Say hello to her for me!

If you have questions about where I purchased any items in this post, I’ve tried to link as many items as possible. I didn’t buy a lot new this year, however, so many of the items are from years’ past. Many stores will carry the same {or at least similar} items for multiple years so you might still luck out! If there’s anything you’re wondering about that’s not listed, just ask. 🙂

It was from HomeSense (HomeGoods). They always have a great selection of white ceramic vases and pitchers (at least they did until COVID hit!).
