Dough Bowl Succulent Planter

Hey guys! I’m back today with another 10 minute decorating post with some of my talented blogging friends.  This month we’re sharing some quick and easy ways to decorate your home with flowers {or in my case – plants!} – perfect for that spring and summer decorating!

Quick and easy ways to decorate your home for spring or summer using flowers. 10 minutes is all you need!As we start to head into summer, I’m all about simplifying things as much as possible.   We only get a few months of beautiful summer weather and I would much rather be outside enjoying the sunshine than stuck inside doing work around the house.

I’m not too good at the best of times remembering to water our house plants, so I decided to go the faux route with this succulent planter.  I purchased the dough bowl last month from Decor Steals {I’m way too addicted to that site!} and thought that it would be perfect to hold some of my faux succulents.

All you need to do is add some dirt and stick in the succulents, placing the larger ones towards the middle.  You can even scatter a little dirt over the leaves to make them appear more like real succulents.  Honestly, I don’t think you’d be able to tell what’s real and what isn’t, but if you wanted to use real succulents you could always do that too.  Just make sure to line the bowl with a plastic liner so the water doesn’t ruin the wood.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love fresh flowers and do purchase them every now and then.  Potted flowers like these hydrangeas {that were featured in our spring home tour} tend to be a little more economical and I was able to enjoy these blooms for over two weeks and can still use the plant.

I also like to bulk up real stems with faux stems and find clippings from our yard whenever I can.

And for those times that I actually do splurge on some fresh cut flowers, these double tulips are my favorite! 🙂

Jenn, those succulents are a dead ringer for the real deal! Oh, what a fabulous idea!!!! I’ll be on the lookout for Decor Steal’s daily dough bowl deal. I love Decor Steals too!
I have great luck growing real succulents but I often forget they do need water. I think faux succulents are the way to go!

The dough bowl looks great. My question is, how do you get Decor Steals to deliver to Canada. I have tried to order many times and always get a reply that they do not ship to Canada. Please, what is your secret?

Sorry – no magic trick. 🙁 I live close to the border so I get things delivered to a shipping company just on the other side.

They are actually a mix from a couple of places – Michaels, Pier One and Pottery Barn. 🙂
