Create a cozy, festive space with these family room Christmas decor ideas.

Happy Holidays! I’ve been a little slow getting through our Christmas home tour this year, but I’m finally back today with our cozy Christmas family room. So grab a cup of hot chocolate or a glass of egg nog and drop on in for a little visit. I’m going to keep the writing to a minimum and just let you tour around. 🙂

If you missed the previous Christmas room tours this year, take a peek around our Christmas kitchen…

Family Room Christmas Decor Ideas

Okay back to our family room! We did a mini family room makeover last winter so this was the first time decorating  for Christmas with the new layout.

I usually use a lot of red in our Christmas family room but decided to try something new this year.  I went with white and green Christmas decorations with metallic accents. Of course, a tiny bit of red still managed to sneak in, but it was still fun to do something a little bit different.

Christmas Mantel

I usually start in this room by decorating our mantel. I feel like it sets the overall tone for the room and gives me a good starting point.  I have been wanting to get some white knit stockings for a few years now and I finally took the plunge with these cozy stockings that I found at Urban Barn. I love the softness that they add to the room.

Christmas Tree

White I try to stick to a bit of a color scheme with our family room tree, it’s also filled with a lot of memory ornaments from when the kids were little, trips we’ve taken, and handmade ornaments from over the years.

I usually try to make at least one handmade Christmas ornament each year and you can see a few of our cute reindeer ornaments on there that we made this year.

I’ve used the white pom pom garland on the tree for a few years now but added in some gold ribbon this year as well. I suggest buying more of what you need and then taking an extra back as I ran out of the ribbon and couldn’t find anymore in stock anywhere!

Christmas Tree Vignette

I gathered some of my favorite mercury glass trees, some white glitter trees, silver lights, and some white pom poms on our sofa table. The frosted greenery is actually just two branches that I molded into the bare spots and wrapped the ends around the underside of the table.

Cozy Throw Corner

The one place I did use a little red was in the back corner of the room. The red plaid blanket is one of my favorites to cuddle up with so I just couldn’t leave it out of the space.

The green and white plaid throw went perfectly with our green cushions and is also super cozy. I don’t think you can ever have too many throws, right?

And if you can’t have a throw to cuddle with, there’s always the cat.

Christmas Lights

Of course, the best part is at night when the fireplace is on and all of the lights are glowing. The dogs really have the best seat in the house…

It’s not a bad view from the sofa though either. There’s just something so peaceful and calming with all of the lights.

Garland on the Stairs

I always debate whether or not I should put garland up the stairs. During the day, I kind of like it bare, but the beauty of the lights at night always wins out. Every year that I take our Christmas home photos, I wish that I was a better photographer so I could truly capture the beauty of the lights. Hopefully, you get the idea.

I just use the clear Command hooks to hang our garland. It’s super quick and easy and I’ve never had any troubles with the strips leaving marks when they’re removed. You can find more information on how to hang a garland on the stairs HERE.

To bring in more of the metallics, I added some silver ribbon and silver ball ornaments to the garland. It’s the first year that I’ve added the ribbon and I really liked it. It’s also an easy way to change up the feel and color scheme in the space.

I hope you enjoyed the tour! I still have some more photos to add but wanted to get this up as quickly as possible! Check back for more of the details in the next couple of days. 🙂

Merry Christmas my friends! xo

I bought it from a local vendor. There are clthomefoliage on instagram if you wanted one. I’m not sure where they ship to. 🙂

Beautiful. There’s so many features that I like, but I think the tree and stockings are my favorite. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration for next season. I’ll be Pinning a few of your pictures.
