February has arrived and it’s time for some new tasks for this month’s Household Organization Diet!  Hopefully, you did some serious decluttering with the 31 Day Household Detox last month {you can still keep going if you haven’t finished!}, and are ready to move on to a little more thorough cleaning and organizing in the kitchen!

How to clean and organize the kitchen {The February Household Organization Diet} - Everything you need to get your kitchen decluttered, cleaned, and organized! Tips, tutorials, and free printables included.

This month we will be working on cleaning and organizing the kitchen from top to bottom to create a prettier, calmer, and more functional space. The kitchen is generally one of the main places that people tend to gather, so I think that it is the perfect room to start off with!  There are also usually less sentimental items in the kitchen, so it also tends to be an easier place to let go of all of that extra clutter.  Ready to get going?  Here are the tasks for the month to clean and organize the kitchen…

Step by step printable checklist to clean and organize the entire kitchen.

If you need more space to right down your monthly goals or have projects in other rooms that you want to get done this month, you can write them down on this sheet.

And lastly, I always like to have a calendar to keep track of when I actually plan on getting the tasks done.  You can see more about how I organize everything in my cleaning binder HERE.

Woah… the oven is so shiny! I can’t achieve this result even if I kill myself with cleaning. Guess I’ll have to stop by more often and absorb the wisdom.

Hi — the dates are still off on the calendar, and the checklist items don’t seem to match the calendar exactly – ? Also, when I try to print the checklist, it doesn’t seem centered on the page so I can’t print it. Maybe it’s my printer, but it doesn’t seem fixable on my end …

I’m excited to try your diet this year, but I wondered whether you had any general posts on how to approach tackling a room in a month? I know you saw everyone can proceed at their own pace, but I am thinking I need more guidance on best ways to approach this and keep it going. Just a thought! Thanks!

Hello! The calendar is fixed and posted. The checklist is in a different order, but as far as I can tell, they are the same. Is there something specific that you see different? Does the printable look centered when your download it? When you are printing, try clicking (or unclicking) the fit to frame or fit to page. It prints centered when I print it out, so that is the only thing that I can think of.
For the rooms, I always break it down into tasks so it is not overwhelming {which is what I put on the to do list}. I then use the calendar to plan when I am going to actually get the tasks done and try to stick to a specific time schedule. I have written more about most of the individual tasks as well so you can check out the posts for those. As a general rule when organizing a space, I like to completely empty out the space that I am working on so I can see everything I have, get rid of what I don’t need/use, sort into categories, and then organize.

Jenn, thanks for the reply! I guess I noticed the first task on the checklist said “clean cupboard doors”, and I didn’t see that on the calendar list, but I think it must equate to “clean cabinets”; haha. Should have noticed the rest were the same!

The printable doesn’t look centered when I download it, and it’s already set to Fit to Page, so I don’t know … but it’s probably me and my printer. 😉 I play around with clicking and unclicking; thanks.

And thanks for the tips on organizing the monthly task. That’s what I guessed but I’m open to any tips! I’ve enjoyed the January declutter stuff and my husband is helping; we’ve still got about 10 to go, but it’s been a great help so far! 😀 (Our linen closet looks amazing now!) Now on to the kitchen (and finishing the other January tasks)!

That’s really weird that it doesn’t look centered when you download it – it’s centered on mine and we should be seeing the same thing. If you are not using Chrome for your browser, try that – it seems to work the best with Google Drive. Let me know if that helps. Good luck with the kitchen! 🙂

Actually, I realized the next day that I was attempting to print from Firefox … which doesn’t always work for me, so I switched to Chrome and was able to print it fine! Sorry for all the bother! Thank you again — hope you are enjoying NYC! 😉

I always try to keep my kitchen clean and tidy as we have a small open plan kitchen / living room. I have been out of action for a couple of weeks due to having knee surgery and you’d be surprised how disorganised and dirty it gets. I love your shiny fridge and how organised you are inside your cupboards. Now I’m really itching to get back into a normal routine!
