Yay!! It’s December 1st! Time to start all of those advent calendars!

Christmas-Book-Advent
We are doing another book advent this year and I have been meaning to share our books with you.  We kept a lot of the same books from last year of course, but have taken some of the younger books away and added in some new ones.   {There is a printable list of our favorite kids’ Christmas books below!}   If you are just starting your collection, you can just do a 12 Days of Christmas advent and add on to it each year.  Scholastic Books has a great assortment of Christmas books at very reasonable prices and you can always check out the local library for some of the books as well.

Here is what we have wrapped up….
  • December 1 –Elf on the Shelf by Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell
  • December 2 – Johann’s Gift to Christmas by Jack Richards {I love this book and remember reading it when I was a child}
  • December 3 – There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell by Lucille Colandro
  • December 4 –Finding Christmas by Robert Munsch {If you have not read Robert Munsch books with your kids you really should – my boys love them!}
  • December 5 – Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer adapted by Rick Bunsen {One of my favorite Christmas shows!}
  • December 6  – Olive the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh and J. Otto Seibold
  • December 7 –A Wish to be a Christmas Tree by Colleen Monroe
  • December 8 – Merry Christmas Curious George by Margaret and H.A. Rey
  • December 9 – A Pirate’s Night Before Christmas by Phillip Yates
  • December 10 – Clifford’s Christmas by Norman Birdwell
  • December 11 – The Grinch Who Stole Christmas by Dr. Suess
  • December 12 – Santa Mouse by Michael Brown
  • December 13 –The Penguin that wanted to be Different by Maria O’Neill
  • December 14 – Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire by Mel Tourme
  • December 15 – The Crunchy, Munchy Christmas Tree by Karen Gray Ruelle
  • December 16 – Froggy’s Best Christmas by Jonathon London
  • December 17 –What Santa Can’t Do by Douglas Wood
  • December 18 – Was That Christmas by Hilary McKay and Amanda Harvey
  • December 19 – How Santa Got His Job by Stephen Krensky
  • December 20 – The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg {We will be watching the movie the next day}
  • December 21 –Little Puppy Lost by Alison Edgson
  • December 22 – Mater Saves Christmas by Kiel Murray {as told by Mater!}
  • December 23 – Who’s That Knocking on Christmas Eve by Jan Brett
  • December 24 –The Night Before Christmas – Clement C. Moore
We are also reading a few chapter books throughout the month:

Warton’s Christmas Eve Adventure by Russell Erikson

    Awww! We do this to. So cute. I love your list! We don’t number them. That’s a cute idea. Lucie gets to pick then the next night Lucas picks. The kids love it, don’t they! Enjoy!!

    I love this. I found this idea on Pinterest awhile back and spent most of my November preparing for my daughter’s book advent:) I didn’t do Christmas themed books, but books in general for her.

    Thanks for this post. Such a cute idea for the little ones. We keep all of our Christmas books in a box that we only get out in December and it does make them seem more special and relevant. Love it!

    One of our favorites is, “Bear Stays Up For Christmas” by Karma Wilson & Jane Chapman. Thanks for sharing! I think I’ll give this a try!

    We did this for our daughter this year but didn’t wrap them. (since we mostly used books from the library) We put them into a “santa sack” that the big man dropped off with our elf on the shelf. Then she gets to pick one at bedtime. My favorite is The Mitten by Jan Brett.

    Great idea we have been doing this for years with our children and now with our grandchildren. For us, a true Advent list includes many books about the the real reason of Christmas, the birth of Christ. We have many others also but the ones about the Nativity are real favorites.

    May I know what kind of 2 inch circle punch do you use?

      Mine is just a really old Memory Maker one from about 15 years ago! They have similar ones at Michaels though and even the dollar store sometimes has them.
