Christmas Home Tour 2016

Welcome to our 2016 Christmas Home Tour {part 1}! Christmas is my very favorite season to decorate for and I’m always so excited for Christmas home tour day!  Today I’m kicking off the Canadian Blogger’s Christmas Home Tour and showing your our holiday kitchen and family room.  Thanks so much to Christina from The DIY Mommy for hosting. There will be beautiful homes featured all week from all across Canada so be sure to check them all out.  You can find all of the links {as well as who is up today} at the end of the post.

Fun and festive Christmas home tour. Lots of red and white with a cozy, Christmas cabin feel.

I went with a cozy Christmas cabin theme this year for our kitchen and family room inspired by our Christmas mantel.  It’s fun and festive with lots of red and white.  I also love the snowy, neutral Christmas decor so I saved that for our dining room and front entry that I will show you tomorrow.  For now, welcome to our kitchen…

If you haven’t been able to tell, I kind of love the truck and Christmas tree thing.  I found this cute salt and pepper set and couldn’t resist it.

I try to switch up what I do with this truck every season and decided to use it to hold our mandarin oranges.  I usually go through a couple of these per day and am always so sad wen they go out of season.

This chalkboard is another favorite of mine to play around with each season.  I created a chalkboard very similar to the one I used in our living room last year

I usually set up a hot chocolate bar in our dining room {you can see last year’s hot chocolate bar here}, but placed it in one of the corners of our kitchen this year.  It makes it a little more accessible and I really wanted to keep the dining room more neutral this year anyways.  You can find the hot chocolate bar labels here if you would like to print your own.

I added this cute chalkboard sign and some cinnamon sticks, and have a cookie jar tucked away in the back {because you really need a cookie when you have hot chocolate!}  I use have a mug of candy cane hot chocolate on most nights – it’s my favorite Christmas treat.

And here’s a final view looking back at the kitchen from our kitchen table.

If you spin around and look the other way from the table, you’ll be looking in on our family room.

I wish I could capture this room at night for you as it really looks so much better when it is all aglow.  The banister is all decked out with a couple of layered garlands {you can see how to hang a garland on the stairs here}, lights and a few ornaments.

I stayed with the basic red and white color scheme on the tree but there are lots of handmade ornaments and some special keepsake ornaments thrown in there too.  You might even be able to spot our elf, Paint, hiding in the tree.  I couldn’t move him for photos. 🙂

For more details on the mantel, head on over to this post.  The only thing I ended up switching out was the clock.  I never really realized how many times I looked at it throughout the day until it was gone!

The sled was purchased at a local vintage market this year.  I love it all dressed up with some greenery, sleigh bells, and a pretty vintage ribbon.  The colors went perfectly with our Christmas wrapping papers this year!

These rustic popsicle stick sleds were one of my favorite projects for this year and they work well with the Christmas cabin theme.  They’re simple to make and can be used as ornaments or gift toppers.

I love everything you’ve done so much! Love all the trucks with their trees but I think my favourite is the sled on your landing. I’ve been searching and searching for a sled with no luck. Colour me green.

I love the classic combos you’ve got here! So much red and white! All the heart eyes!

Also super jelly of your white Kitchen cabinets. Ours are super super dark and there’s not one thing I can do about it (we’re in a rental).

    Lovely job!

Love your home!! You have inspired me. We just added a grey subway tile backsplashi in our kitchen and now I have some ideas to work with to compliment our area. We would like to add a fireplace to our familiy room. Can you tell me about the tile you used around your fireplace and your entertainment built it? THANK YOU!

The built in was actually there when we moved in. A few years ago we painted it all white, spray painted the fireplace insert black with a heat resistant spray paint (it was gold before), and replaced the tile with the slate tile that is there now.

You nailed the cozy Christmas cabin theme. Loving all of the red. I usually go with more colour, but thought I’d try something a little different this year. I’m enjoying the variety of colours and style throughout the tour. Happy Holidays 🙂

I found it at Home Sense {Home Goods} a couple of years ago, but I saw it again last year as well {I think they had blue too}. Hopefully they’ll restock it again. It came with a metal tree in the back that I cut out. I have much more fun filling it with my own goodies!
