Fun and Easy Picnic Lunch

Hello! I hope your week has been going well! My {new} computer caught a nasty virus just before we left for our vacation.  Things have not been the same ever since I returned and she is now on life support and will not even boot up. I have my fingers crossed that the computer doctor will be able to fix her as I now have no access to my main email or blog photos.   Please bear with me as I try to come up with some last minute blog posts!

On Friday the boys and I are going to be heading off to the beach and spray park for a little picnic {weather permitting!}.   When I pack up picnic food, I try to keep things relatively healthy while still trying to find things that the boys like and can eat on the go.  Seriously, they will rarely sit down to eat for more than a couple of minutes at a time when there are so many more important things to do!

To make things easier to pack up {and more fun to eat!}, I made up a couple of these picnic lunch boxes. 

They make the perfect kid-size lunch kit.

MATERIALS

• Plastic bead organizer with interchangeable dividers.   I picked up mine from Michaels.  They are regularly priced at $6.99 so they are pretty reasonable if you use a coupon.
• Scrapbook Paper {double sided is easiest as the backside will show through on the inside of the box}.  The paper and embellishments are all from various Echo Park lines.
• Clear glue.
• Modge podge.
• Yummy snacks!! {I also addded a mini hand sanitizer, a napkin, and a funky "spork" - spoon on one end, fork on the other}

Create the cover for your box from the scrapbook paper and add any embellishments that you would like.   Remember that the underside of the cover will show through your box when it is open so decorate both sides.  To make it more durable, keep things fairly simple without any added dimension.  Using a foam brush, apply a couple of coats of Modge Podge to seal.

For the food, just freeze a yogurt tube {and/or the drink box} to help keep things cool.  The temperatures around here don't usually get too crazy, but if it is especially hot where you are you can just place the box in a cooler.  I used little medicine boxes{from the dollar store} tucked in beside the yogurt tube to hold dip for the carrots and some hummus for the crackers.

Here is what we filled ours with: 1 fruit and veggie juice box, rice crackers {with hummus in medicine container}, whole wheat pretzels, blueberries, cheese stick, yogurt tube, carrots {and dip in a medicine container} and some Mike and Ikes {you gotta have some candy!}.
