The 2016 Household Organization Diet

December 29, 2015 by Jenn Lifford 39 Comments

UPDATE: The 2017 Household Organization Diet will be coming out December 28th!!  Make 2017 the year to get organized with all new printables!!  Sign up HERE for our email newsletter so you won’t miss out!

Who is ready to get organized for 2016?  Well, let’s get going!  The Household Organization Diet is back!!!

Join in this year long plan to get every room in your home decluttered, deep cleaned and organized! Free monthly printables and to do lists to help keep you on track.

Last year was actually the first year that I made it through the entire year of The Household Organization Diet.  {If you have not heard of my Household Organization Diet before, begin with this post HERE}.  Decluttering and deep cleaning one room at a time, I made a significant dent in getting our home completely decluttered of the items that we no longer need or use and coming up with some simple organization systems to keep it that way.  I still have a few things to go over and some spaces to tweak here and there {and our basement storage room to tackle!}, but I am pretty happy with what we were able to accomplish.  Even though things are not perfect, I feel like I have a good hold on our clutter and I have come up with some new habits to help me stay on top of things.

MY LATEST VIDEOS

Whether you feel like your home is completely bursting at the seams or you just need a little trimming down in specific areas, The Household Organization Diet can work for you.  This month by month plan will help you declutter, deep clean, and organize every area in your home in do-able, easy to follow steps.  You can customize it however you would like or follow along with me.  You might not get everything done – and that is totally okay.  The key is to just begin…

Having trouble getting started? Take a deep breath and just begin...

Each month I will put out a new monthly calendar and to do list for you – you can print out the list that I will be using or print out a blank one and customize it for yourself.  Throughout the month, I will post cleaning tips, organization projects, or other inspirational ideas to help you out with the room that we are working on.  Even committing to doing one or two key tasks each month will get you that much closer to reaching your goal.  Do as little or as much as you would like – just do something!  🙂

I am so excited to “work” with you on this project. I started in October of this year, hoping to have everything completed before it was time to put up the Christmas tree. What a shock I got, hardly got
our bedroom completed, and into our main bathroom. I am ready…let’s go girl!

Slow and steady wins the race! Honestly, I find that if I take my time with it, I do a much better job and find that what I have done is much more sustainable. You’ll get through it!

Yes, I think the key is just to get started and focus on small areas if you have a lot to tackle. It can be done!!

This looks like exactly the right project for little old disabled me. I’m overwhelmed with a too cluttered flat and no energy (no ‘spoons’) to work on it. All these challenges in 14 or 31 days just leave me frustrated and out of energy for weeks. Here’s to slow and steady!

PS. Do you think it could be possible to get a blank version of your “Final Daily Cleaning Routine” to create a personal version thereof, perhaps even editable for those of us who cannot write so well anymore? Ta!

Slow and steady is the way to go for me too! There is a blank version of the Daily Cleaning Routine here that you can fill in. They are just in JPEGS so if you wanted to type your plan you could go to a photo editor like Pic Monkey and just use the text tool to add your text to it. HOpe that helps!

It’s halfway through August and I don’t see any August-specific posts yet for organization. Are you stopping with these blog posts because of your book? I am behind and don’t have kids anyway, but I was hoping to see more updated posts for the rest of the year.

    Congrats on the book! Thanks.

Hi Tracy! The monthly posts will begin again in September, but, yes, I did have to skip this month due to the book. It has taken WAY more time than expected and once it’s finished (hopefully tomorrow) I’ll be taking some family time off for the rest of the month. I plan on just moving all of the room posts back a month so the kids rooms will be done in September. Thanks for your patience!!

I’m so glad I started HOD this year! I have no where near the amount of space/rooms that you do (my condo is a 2/2 and only 870 sq. ft.), but I was able to modify easily to fit my needs. For example I did the 31 Day Detox in January and July, used June to stock up on hurricane supplies and make sure the condo was ready. Instead of a basement I have a balcony with a laundry closet, so used one month to organize and clean the the balcony and windows, start a little herb garden and update the laundry closet. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this out, it really has helped to put household organization to paper and watch the tasks get checked off! 2017 is right around the corner, here’s to starting fresh 🙂

I love when people take the idea and totally adapt it for them! I really like the idea of doing the detox twice – might have to do that next year too! I’m so happy to hear that it was helpful for you. 🙂

There aren’t for last year as I didn’t do it for those months. There will be ones for this year though and I will actually be releasing the whole year as a bundle for email subscribers next month. 🙂
