Christmas Dining Room

Welcome back to the second part of our Christmas home tour! Yesterday I showed you our festive red and white holiday kitchen and family room, and today I’m going a totally different style in our Christmas dining room.  While the Christmas reds are fun, I really love the neutral, snowy decor.  It’s just so pretty and calming and a lot of it can be kept out into January as well.

Our hutch is probably my favorite thing to decorate in our whole house.  I painted it a few years ago with Annie Sloan chalk paint in graphite and I love the contrast with the black against the white. While we don’t use the dining room a lot for eating, it’s the first room you see when you walk in the house so I always like it to look welcoming.

My new Christmas purchase this year was this flocked Christmas tree.  I love it! I’ve always wanted one but my husband always preferred an unflocked tree.  So, I decided to do our traditional tree in the family room where we always put it, and place this one in our dining room just for me.

I added a snowball garland for some extra white and some pretty neutral and metallic ornaments.

Our cat has been having lots of fun playing with the tree and I was nervous that she might knock it down.  So far it’s been good, but I did notice that she’s chewed the corner of one of the presents.  Little stinker.

I added some garland, ornaments and some battery operated lights to our light fixture as well.  The lights don’t give off enough light to not have the main light on, but they add a soft glow and make the ornaments sparkle at night.

The Old Fashioned Sleigh Rides sign is a free printable and DIY canvas tutorial that I did a couple of years ago.  It’s still a favorite of mine and it worked well in our snowy dining room this year.  You can also find an easy tutorial for the DIY icicle pinecones that I have throughout the room.

I love my chalkboards and always have at least one in here.  This one was kept fairly simple and guards my husband’s candy cane stash.

The side table on the far side of the room was actually the main inspiration for the room.  Last year, I had our candy cane hot chocolate bar here, but since I moved it into the kitchen, I had a whole new space to decorate!

I have lots of lights throughout the room, but it’s so hard to really capture it all on camera.  It’s so pretty when it’s all aglow.  You’ll just have to trust me. 🙂

Most of them are faux with the exception of some real ones in the centerpiece. I’ve kind of collected them from everywhere over the years. Home Sense {Home Goods in the States} often has some really nice ones. A lot of the other ones are from local stores – we have a couple of garden stores that really go all out at Christmas. 🙂

Oh my. Love the red and white but the neutrals are so beautiful. I have always wanted a flocked tree but was afraid it would be messy. But your tree is gorgeous!! You have me rethinking my decision. Maybe a smaller one for another room like you did. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I love the neutrals! The flocked tree is a little messy when you put it up, but once it’s done it doesn’t lose any of the flocking. I’m so glad I got it!
