Hey! It’s Lindi again! I’m so happy to be back again from Love Create Celebrate sharing another DIY project. Since we’re less than a month away from Mother’s Day, I thought it would be a great time to share a quick Mother’s Day DIY Gift!

Create this easy DIY wooden tray for the perfect Mother's Day breakfast in bed!

My mother is far from a DIYer. She asks me ALL the time where I come up with all these ideas, lol. But she still appreciates a nice DIY gift 🙂 I made this DIY tray as a gift for her this Mother’s Day. I wanted something stylish and beautiful. Bonus: this tray obviously implies that she needs more breakfast in bed!

MATERIALS

  • Wooden Tray (Mine was from Michaels)
  • Thick Cork
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Cutting tool
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Pencil
  • String Glue

To start, I used chalk paint to paint all of the sides and edges of my wooden tray. I did two coats. You can chose any paint you want, but I loved the colour of this Americana Decor chalk paint, and I knew it would dry quickly 🙂

Once the paint it dry you want to measure the length and width of the bottom of your tray for the cork to sit it.

When you have your measurements, trace them directly onto the cork and cut it. I used my sewing cutting mat, but you can also use fabric scissors – just be sure to cut straight!

Once your piece is ready, spread your glue across the bottom of the tray.

Put your cork in place and use something to weight down all of the edges while it dries.

Once the glue is dry on the bottom piece, repeat the entire process with the side panels.

Repeat the process once more with the two ends, making sure to trace the handle and cut it out too. An X-Acto knife helped me cut out the handle shapes.

That’s it! I LOVE how versatile this piece is. It can act as a decorative tray on the coffee table. Or you can carry it up to your reading nook with a coffee and a pastry.

What an absolutely adorable tray, the cork in it is such great idea, things won’t slip and slide on it while carrying. Think your Mom will be so pleased when she sees it. useful for many purposes for her, aren’t you the thoughtful daughter? Love color you painted tray, fresh and bright for Spring.
I hope your weather is lots nicer where you live, it’s cruddy here and has me feeling cranky not being able to go outside to put some boxes away, declutter. I don’t deal with cruddy weather very well. At least can go out and walk in snow but nasty mud, UGH! Don’t have rain boots. Have great weekend
