Memory Scroll Ornament

Happy Holidays Clean and Scentsible readers!  My name is Becky and I blog over at Cupcakes and Ruby Slippers.  In January I became a first time parent to a pretty amazingly adorable little man and I am just starting to do all things crafty, DIY and home decor related again. LONG overdue!  I am a self proclaimed Christmas nut and I am sure my family and friends would not bat an eye to nominate me as such.  Confession:  I listen to Christmas tunes BEFORE Halloween. Yes, that is a fact.

I am so excited to take part in Jenn's Trim the Tree Party!  I have known Jenn for a very long time and have been a huge fan of her blog since day one.  I love her crafty ways and her fearless outlook on all things DIY. This is actually my very first guest post ever and I just love that it is a Christmas themed feature.

I had been wracking my brain, trying to think of a way to capture some of the sweetest little details about my little man Alexander and make them into a special keepsake for our Christmas tree.  I wanted to do a message in a bottle type ornament-something he could he could one day open and read.  I wanted a way my hubby and I could express the joy he brings us and document a few milestones in a meaningful way.  I had a flash of genius! {okay, maybe a stretch?} I thought about using clear ornament balls {instead of a bottle for our message} and it took off from there.  I wanted it to be very simple, sweet and somewhat traditional looking. Here is what I came up with....

MATERIALS
  • clear glass ornament ball
  • glitter paint
  • paint brush
  • number stencil
  • painters tape
  • exacto knife
  • bakers twine
  • vellum paper
  • kraft paper
  • letter stamp set
  • stamp ink in black
  • jute string (for hanging)

HOW TO
  • Type a list of things you wish to document on the computer-I put the year at the top and then listed the sentiments in point form, the print it on vellum paper.

  • Cut the list it to resemble a long scroll, roll it up and secure it with a piece of bakers twine.
  • Next cut a small piece of kraft paper and fold it width wise {to give it more weight} and glue it together with adhesive dots to secure the fold.  I used tiny letter stamps to spell out my little mans name on both sides.  I also burnished the edges with black ink to give it some visual interest.

  • Using a cardboard stencil, trace the number 1 on to painters tape and carefully cut it out with a exacto blade. Then place the painters tape stencil on the glass ball as a custom adhesive stencil. Be sure to press the edges of the painters tape stencil down firmly with your nails to avoid any bleeding of the paint.  I did three coats of paint to build up the glitter paint power ;) Let dry and carefully remove stencil. I VERY carefully scored the edges with the exacto knife first.
  • Carefully place the tied scroll and name card into the ball.
  • Lastly, add some jute string to hang from your tree!

This little ornament is the first of a tradition I plan to keep up each Christmas, recognizing the number of Christmases we celebrate with our Alexander. This year he is actually going to be 11 months old on Christmas day.  The number on this ornament is to signify his 1st Christmas :)
I hope you and your loved ones have a very happy Holiday Season and make many cherished memories with your loved ones.

Warm Wishes!

I seriously LOVE this idea!!  I wish that I had thought of that when my kiddos were little.  Better late than never though, right?  Becky and I have been friends since Kindergarten {I won't tell you how many years that is!} so it is extra special for me to have her here today.  She is also the one that started me on this whole blogging adventure!  I had never even heard of a blog before I saw hers!  So hard to believe that that was only a couple of years ago...

Head on over to Cupcakes and Ruby Slippers and say hello to Becky - my one and only blogging friend that I have met in real life!

Don't forget to check out the rest of the other amazing ornaments shared this week.  I am so appreciative of all of the wonderful bloggers that joined me!

Chocolate Cheesecake Oreo Balls

Hello!  I hope you have been enjoying all of the ornaments from my Trim the Tree Party Since no party would be complete without a little food, I thought that I would take a little break from the ornaments to share this yummy treat with you...

I first shared these over at Poofy Cheeks a couple of weeks ago for Kelsey's Great Cookie Exchange PartyIf you are looking for some Christmas baking inspiration it is definitely the place to go!

CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE OREO BALLS

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 Cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 Cup cream cheese {cut up and softened}
  • 20 Oreo cookies finely chopped {I used a pastry blender to grind mine up}
  • 2 1/4 Cups milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • chocolate sprinkles
To Make
  • Melt the semisweet chocolate chips in the microwave. {Set microwave to medium power and heat the chocolate chips for 1 minute in a microwave safe bowl, stir and heat again in 30 second intervals until melted.}
  • Stir in the cream cheese until well combined.  Add the chopped cookies.
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.  Form the cookie mixture into small balls and place on the sheet.  Over and freeze for approximately 15-30 minutes until firm.
  • Combine the milk chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave safe bowl and microwave as above until melted.
  • Dip the balls into the chocolate mixture.  Place the dipped balls on the wax paper tray and sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles.
  • Freeze approximately 30 minutes until firm.
Makes approximately 2 dozen balls.

As much as I love eating treats, I am not really much of a baker.  The most fun that I have with all of my Christmas baking is packaging it up for little gifts!

I re-cycled a plastic container that some buns had come in and dressed it up for Christmas!!  I added some double sided scrapbook paper to the lid {decorate the front and the back as you will see the back when you open it up} and lined the bottom of the container with paper as well.  I glittered up a paper clip to attach the tag and tied it all together with baker's twine.

When you are serving the chocolate balls, they fit nicely on mini cupcake liners.

Now relax and enjoy!

Canning Jar Snowman

Hey Clean and Scentsible friends! I'm Kristin from Simply Klassic Home and Simply Klassic Design. I blog about all kinds of things, but mostly home decor and recipes, with a little craftiness thrown in. Oh, and let's not forget my crazy kids - I blog about them every once in a while too! I am a single, adoptive mommy of two little kiddos, who loves to cook, decorate and DIY. I am a newly converted thrifter and I love all things vintage. My kids are a handful, I’m exhausted, and most days my house is a mess. Simply Klassic is the place where I share our crazy, beautiful, perfectly imperfect life!

I was so thrilled when Jenn asked me to participate in her Handmade Christmas series. Then I was like...what am I going to do??? I'm not THAT crafty, it's usually by luck that I come up with something creative, like my canning jar ring pumpkin. Speaking of canning jar rings, it seems they are pretty versatile, and who doesn't have a few jar rings lying around the house? I knew I could come up with something. The other day I challenged myself to create ten different ornaments with just a few supplies. This little cutie was number 11.

I think he's pretty cute. I had to give him a hat because my kids didn't believe me that he was a snowman. It's super simple to make too!

MATERIALS
  • three canning jar rings
  • fishing twine
  • mod podge
  • epsom salt
  • silver or black pipe cleaner
  • ribbon {for scarf}
TO DO
  • Apply a light coat of mod podge to a canning jar ring, then dip it into a plate of epsom salt. Allow to dry completely.
  • Tie the rings together with fishing twine.
  •  Form the hat with pipe cleaner and just bend it around the jar to attach. You could totally hot glue it if you want to, but I was too lazy, and it hasn't fallen off yet!
  • Tie a scarf (ribbon) around his neck, and tie fishing line through the top ring for hanging.

It was so easy I'm going to have my kids make more for Christmas gifts and I think I'll put their little faces in the top circle.

Thank you so much Jenn for the opportunity to be a part of such a fun series. There's more fun to be had over at Simply Klassic! I hope you'll stop by the blog, or visit me on Facebook or Pinterest. I'd love to get to know you better!

Isn't he cute?  Don't let Kristin fool you when she says she isn't that crafty!  I first met Kristin when she re-designed my blog for me.  She was wonderful to work with and she is still always there to help out.  She has a beautiful blog and always speaks her heart.  I know you will love her so head on over to Simply Klassic and say hello!

Personalized "Home" Ornament

Hi everyone!  I hope you have been enjoying all of the handmade Christmas decorations for my Trim the Tree Party One of my favorite crafty gals, Jaime from Crafty Scrappy Happy, is up this morning.  Her projects are always so personal just like her sweet ornament that she is sharing...

*****************
Hi! I am Jaime, I am the crafty gal and voice behind the blog Crafty Scrappy Happy.
I love all things involving crafting, DIY and Up-cycling.
I am SO thrilled and honored to be a part of Jenn's Trim the Tree homemade ornament series! I adore everything about Jenn and her blog!
So, one of the things that I ALWAYS try make sure I incorporate into my crafts is meaning and I try to follow this even more so around the holiday season.
And one of the biggest things that has happened this year for my husband and I was that we purchased our fist house. And so of course I am all about making all kinds of special and meaningful ornaments this year having to do with "Home".
This is my first personalized "home" ornament and I am really loving how special it is!

And what makes it even better, is that it was simple to make!

I used my silhouette cutter to cut out the state of Wisconsin on a piece of vinyl, but this step could also be done by tracing an outline of your "home" state as well. Next I applied the vinyl to the ornament and then used a Martha Stewart glass paint to add the state.

Then after the paint dried, I used glue to add glitter to the state.

Finally I added the wording with StazOn in and my favorite dollar section alphabet stamps.

Sweet and simple and a great personalized way to dress up your tree or create a special gift for friends or family!

*****************
If you have not had a chance to visit Jaime, head on over to Crafty Scrappy Happy to see what her new home looks like!  It is a beautiful lake side property and she and her husband have done an amazing job with it.  The Before and After photos are crazy!  And, of course, there are tons of wonderful crafts to fill her home!

If you have missed out on any of the other ornaments shared, head on over here to check them all out!

Walnut Men Christmas Ornaments

I am Alexis and on my blog, Jac o' lyn Murphy, I share all the holiday, gifts and party related things that I do.  I am so excited to be here with Jenn and share my nutty Christmas Ornaments!

My family tends to be a little silly during the holidays so I decided to honor everyone this year with their own Walnut Ornament Characterchure...

MATERIALS
  • walnuts
  • paint
  • paint brushes
  • ribbon
  • glue gun or strong glue
  • clear spray coating

TO DO
  • Paint your walnuts to look like family members, adding special traits that they possess {here is my husband's thinning hair on top of his head!}

  • Once they are painted and dried, spray with a clear (and I used one with a slight gloss) protective coating, let dry, and attach a ribbon loop,

  • On the back with hot glue, trim the long ends when dry...

...and Presto!

Here is my nutty family (including my parent's beloved Old English Sheepdog, Prudence!).

My son is not happy that he is the "biggest nut".  I really didn't do it intentionally :)

of course I had to put them on
the FAMILY TREE...

I packaged them in a glass container with a fitting sticker...

and gave them as an early Christmas gift!

Have a wonderful Holiday!

Now, how awesome are those?  I love how fun they are and the packaging is so cute!  I think my boys would really get a kick out of this one!  Alexis always has the most amazing gift and party ideas over at Jac o' lyn Murphy and definitely puts a fun twist on things!  Don't forget to drop by and see her latest project!

Pinwheel Ornament

Hello beautiful Clean and Scentsible Readers!
I am Angie from
Echoes of Laughter and I am so happy to be here with you today to share this fun Christmas project...an easy and adorable pinwheel ornament!

I know the budget can take a bit of a hit at Christmas time with shopping, baking and decorating, which is why I like crafts which are easy on the budget. This materials for this project can easily be found at most dollar stores. And these ornaments can be made in any colour or size to fit your decor.

MATERIALS
  • double sided Christmas scrapbook paper in cardstock weight
  • glue dots
  • buttons
  • scissors or a paper trimmer
  • ruler and a pencil
  • hole punch
  • ribbon

 TO DO
  • Cut cardstock into squares that are the size of the ornament you desire. I cut my square 3 inches by 3 inches, but you can make bigger or smaller if you like.
  • Cut the square on the diagonal from each corner. Do not cut all the way through the center. Leave the center about an half an inch in diameter.
  • Place a glue dot in the center of the square. Fold in two sides of the pinwheel as shown. Add another glue dot to the center and fold in the last two sides of the pinwheel.
  • Add another glue dot in the center and add the button.
  • Punch a hole in the ornament, add some ribbon and hang.

I think a whole tree done in pinwheels would be quite lovely!

Thank you so much to sweet Jenn for having me visit today! I am so very grateful to be here!

Be sure to visit Echoes of Laughter to take a peek at my other Christmas projects.

And I wish you a wonderful Christmas season with your family!
