Ruffled Spider

Well, our Thanksgiving is over so it is time to move on to Halloween!! I am starting to bring out the Halloween decorations today and have been working on a couple of new things to add to the collection.

I don't really like the gory Halloween decorations but I do like to get a little spooky {in a cute way!}  So... please welcome our new spider family!

MATERIALS
  • black yarn {both regular yarn and some fuzzy yarn}
  • styrofoam balls {2 or 3 inch balls for the smaller guys and a 4 inch ball for the Mom}
  • black pipe cleaners
  • buttons
  • black felt {I used about 8 8.5x11 sheets}
  • straight pins
  • wooden skewer

TO DO
  • For the baby spiders, just wrap your styrofoam ball with yarn, pop in the pipe cleaners for the legs, and add the buttons for the eyes.

  • For the body of the larger spider, I cut off a bit on the bottom of the large styrofoam ball to make it flat so that he would sit nicely.  I then cut out a bunch of felt circles, folded them in half twice, and pinned them to the ball {you can find more details from my ruffled pumpkin tutorial here}  I found that it was easier to add the legs first and then pin the circles around them.
  • For the head, I just wrapped a smaller ball with yarn and stuck it to the body with a wooden skewer.
