Felt Pumpkins

Happy Monday everyone!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  We enjoyed a quick little camping trip with the family and pretended that school didn't start last week. :)

I have mentioned many times how much I absolutely LOVE summer and I always have a hard time when it starts to come to an end.   That being said, I do really enjoy the first couple of months of fall.  I love the turning of the leaves, the smells of fall, Halloween, pumpkin patch trips, and {most of all!} the fabulous fall decor.

For some reason, I find fall the most inspiring season to craft and decorate for.  I never seem to be short on project ideas or inspiration {of course Pinterest helps with that too!}  So... I am pretty excited to get going on my first fall project of the year.

I always love quick and easy projects and this one can easily be done in an hour or two.

MATERIALS
  • styrofoam ball {I used a 4 inch ball but you can use any size}
  • straight pins
  • felt {I used about 7 sheets of 8 1/2 x11 inch sheets from Michaels}
  • stick
  • green material or scrapbook paper {optional}
TO DO

  1. Cut off a small portion of the bottom of the ball so that it will sit flat.
  2. Find a stick from outside and stick it into the top of the ball.
  3. Cut out a leaf shaped piece of fabric {or scrapbook paper} pinch one end and use a straight pin to pin it to the foam ball as close to the stick as possible.
  4. Create a 3 inch circle to use as a stencil.  I used a punch but you could always trace around a glass or other circular object that was approximately this size to get your stencil.  Use the stencil to cut out felt circles.  { I just held my stencil up against the felt and cut around it rather than tracing directly onto the felt and cut 3 felt pieces at a time}
  5. To pin a circle onto the foam ball, fold it in half, fold it in half again and then stick a pin through all four layers.  Pin it to the ball and continue pinning overlapping your circles to hide the pins. {you can see a picture here from a past project that I did if you are more of a visual person!}

So simple and cute!!  I'm pretty happy with my little pumpkin and can't wait to create a few more.  Hopefully I will have a good portion of my fall decorating done next week to show you guys!

Have you started decorating yet?  I would love for you to come and show off your creations tomorrow night at The Creative Spark!

I'm jealous you got to go camping after school started. I really wanted to this weekend as well but the weather didn't cooperate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this weekend :) I love summer too and want to squeeze every last bit of it out before I admit it's fall! Cute pumpkin...I'll like it even more in about a month :)

This is TOO cute!!!
But, just so you know, you really don't have to CUT the bottom off, you can just smash it flat on a table or whatever.
