Summer Patio

Happy Thursday everyone!!   Today I am thrilled to be participating in the Get Ready for Summer Blog Party hosted by Kristin at Simply Klassic Home and Maggie from Midwestern Girl DIY.  There are so many fabulous bloggers joining in on the party and tons of summer inspiration for you all!
The party has been running all week long and there have been so many amazing summer ideas shared already.  Head on over to Simply Klassic Home or Midwestern Girl DIY for links to all of the guest bloggers’ posts and to participate in their daily link parties!  For those of you that are new around here, I am SO glad you could drop by for a visit!
Today I will be showing you some of our outdoor decorating.  Being from British Columbia, we tend to get a lot of rain.  I am always thrilled when the warmer, sunnier summer weather rolls around and we can spend more time outside.

It doesn’t really take much to make your front entry warm and inviting.  Last year, we painted our front porch black and I love the look against the lighter walls of the house.   If you are thinking of going black, just remember that dirt does show up a lot easier so you do have to get used to those inevitable little footprints showing up!

One of the nice things about living in a cooler climate is that flowers tend to do quite well around here.  During the hotter months of July and August, they do need to be watered daily,  but they have generally established a pretty good root system by then and are still forgiving if you miss a day or two!

In the back, we have a patio leading off of our kitchen eating area.  It could do with a new staining but we have not had enough dry weather around here this year to get it done.

Instead of using expensive patio furniture, I dressed things up a bit by adding lots of color through pillows {that were purchased last year at Superstore}, little accessories, and more flowers!  I painted the little No. 1 flower box last year and it has distressed nicely over the winter.  Using unexpected containers for planters adds a unique touch to your patio – just get creative!

The patio is East facing so it is great for catching some mid day sun but is nice and cool for those summer dinners.

If only I could figure out how to extend our summers, things would be perfect! {oh and it would be nice if thesun decided to show up soon!}

Thank-you so much for dropping by!  I hope you have enjoyed the outdoor tour.   Don’t forget to head over to Simply Klassic Home or Midwestern Girl DIY to check out the other amazing bloggers and to link up your own summer decorating ideas!!!  See you there!

I linked up to Under the Table and Dreaming, I Heart Naptime, Lolly Jane, The Shabby Nest, Stone Gable, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Today’s Creative Blog, My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia, Positively Splendid, Delightful Order, Uncommon, Lil Luna, Not Just a Housewife, Tip Junkie, Home Stories A to Z, A Bowl Full of Lemons, Polly Want a Crafter, Craft-O-Maniac, CRAFT, The DIY Showoff, Funky Junk Interiors, Too Much Time on My Hands, Tatertots and Jello, 30 Handmade Days, Tidy Mom, Whipperberry and Uncommon.

Your backyard is so pretty! Where did you get your table set, and what kind of paint did you use for your porch? Thanks.

Wow, gorgeous porch! We’re just getting ready to replace our porch floor this week and I’ve been trying to convince Hubby to go black. I just love the look. So far it’s a no go for Hubby, but I’ll see if showing him pictures of yours helps. Thanks!

Your black entry is very dramatic, and shows off all the flowers very nicely. I really like your backyard as well–it looks like a great spot to sit and enjoy your surroundings. I am a new visitor, follower and subscriber–I really like your blog!

Wow. So, beautiful. My patio only has a few plastic stacking chairs, a small table, and a few potted plants. I need to up my game this season because I would love to have it look even remotely as lovely as your space does. Thanks for sharing.

Summer Patio

Summer around these parts can be so beautiful.  Temperatures can get up to around 25-30 degrees during the day (I think that is around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit!) and typically cool off at night.  The views of the mountains and all of the lakes around here is gorgeous and it is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors.  I LOVE SUMMER!!!

Well, this year, our summer weather has pretty much sucked.  We had the rainiest Spring that I can remember and it seems to have carried on into the summer months.  We have probably had a total of 10 days (maximum!) of nice weather and when it is sunny the mosquitoes have been waiting to strike!  I have kind of been putting off yard work and patio decorating until the summer sunshine was out in full force but decided that I better get to it before summer was over.  Maybe some patio decorating will bring out the sun!

Here’s the front porch:

There are a couple of benefits of having a lot of rain and cooler weather – my flowers are much happier this year and the green around the house is so vibrant!

My spring/summer wreath on the door is still hanging in there!

For the back porch I decided to go yellow this year!  I picked up some outdoor pillows at Superstore for $7 each and they added the perfect little touch!

Love this birdhouse!

The pot with no flowers in it has some lilies planted.  I am hoping that they didn’t get drowned out.

Our poor little fire pit in the background is filled with water.  No marshmallow roasting around here right now.

Even our dog, Bismark, is unimpressed with the weather.

Our poor cherry blossom tree has slowly been dying for some reason.  Taking it down is on my hubby’s list of things to do!  If anyone has any suggestions for saving it, I would love to hear them!

And my last project that I just finished is this little storage bin to hold sunscreen, bug spray and our Off lantern!  This is one of those “should be easy projects” that didn’t go so well! Post to follow!

So come on Mr. Sun we are all waiting for you!!!

Hope you all have a great day!  Talk to you soon!

You have a wonderful front porch and deck. Your dog does look sad. I love dog pics. I would gladly trade you some rain for a severe drought. Everything here is nice and crispy. Lots of wildfires too. I wish mohter nature would spread it all around a bit and then we could all be happy with the weather. 🙂
